In order to determination of cholesterol in human serum with no reagent using nearinfrared (NIR) spectroscopy. Interval partial least square (iPLS) was proposed as an effective variable selection approach for multivariate calibration. For this purpose  an independent sample set was employed to evaluate the prediction ability of the resulting model. The spectrum was split into different interval. Then  the informative region of cholesterol (1688-1760nm)  in which the PLS model has a low RMSEP with 0.241mmol/L and a high R with 0.975  is selected with 23 intervals. The results indicate that  the informative region of cholesterol can be obtained by iPLS and applied to design the simpler reagentless NIR instruments for inexpensive cholesterol measurement in future. A new design of compound Fresnel-R concentrator is presented which is composed of two lenses: a primary lens (Fresnel lens) that works by total internal reflection at outer facets but refraction at inner facets  and a secondary lens that works by refraction. In contrast to previous Fresnel lens concentrator  this design increases the acceptance angle  improves the irradiance uniformity on the solar cell  and reduces the aspect ratio significantly. Another outstanding advantage of this concentrator is the fact that it mainly works by performing total internal reflection  reducing chromatic dependence as well as Fresnel losses. An optical efficiency more than 80% can be achieved. Moreover  in order to reduce the influence of manufacture accuracy and to increase the optical efficiency further  the central part of the bottom of the secondary lens which directly adhered to the solar cell is designed as a cone-shaped prism to collect the sunlight that doesn't reach the solar cell. 2010 SPIE.

The radiometric calibration of the thermal imager was investigated to build the relationship between the input radiance and the digital output to realize the temperature measurement. The radiometric calibration was implemented in the State Key Laboratory of Applied Optics. A standard black body source was served as radiation source. The response of the thermal imager to the input radiance was tested for different gains. The experimental results show that the average grey level of the output imaging is linear dependence of the input radiance. Because the radiance in the receiving wave range of the thermal imager is linear with the black body's temperature based on Planck's law of radiation  the average grey level of the output image is also linear with the black body's temperature after fitting a curve to the experiment data points. Then the relationship of the response and the gain was studied when the black body's temperature kept constant. The preliminary analysis of calibration data shows that the response of the thermal imager is linear and the average grey value of the image is directly proportion to the gain. According to the experimental results  the reference gains and the dynamic range of temperature measurement were obtained. Finally  the uncertainty influencing the calibration results was analyzed  the analysis shows the maximal uncertainty is 5.2%  which can meet the calibration requirement less than 10%. 2010 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

In order to improve the measuring accuracy of the visible light phase-shifting point diffraction interferometer (PS/PDI) for the extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUVL) aspheric mirrors  the main measuring errors will be discussed in this paper. At first  the elementary configuration and measuring principle of the visible light phase-shifting point diffraction interferometer are introduced briefly  then the different errors which are possible to affect the measuring result are summed up  the errors include PZT phase-shifting error  detector nonlinearity error  detector quantization error  wavelength instability error and intensity instability error of the laser source  vibration error  air refractivity instability error and so on. Through detailed analysis and simulation  the magnitude of these errors can be obtained. By analysing the reasons which cause these errors and the relationship between these errors and interferometer configuration parameters  some methods are put forward to avoid or restrain these errors accordingly.

The paper introduces the white-light spectral scanning interferometry for surface measurement. This interferometry can be used to measure the roughness of both smooth surfaces and those with large step heights. This real-time surface measurement can be achieved using acousto-optic tuneable filtering (AOTF) technique without mechanical scanning. At first  the structure and principle of this interferometry is introduced. Then the algorithm of the surface roughness measurement is proposed. What's more  the experiment with standard test piece is conducted. Compared with the traditional laser-light interferometry  the data shows that the proposed method has a higher accuracy which is proved to be nano-scale. A conclusion is given at last in which the superiorities and the limitations of the proposed system were discussed. 2010 SPIE.

An imaging system with three-waveband sharing one lens and an area CCD was developed. By rotating different filters into the beam path  the required waveband was selected. The optical system which can image in ultraviolet  visible and near infrared region was designed and the signal collecting system was integrated. The optical design and system integration have some advantages such as low cost  small size and light in weight. To obtain a high imaging quality  the radiation calibration is carried out in order to establish the relation between the average grey level of output image and the input radiance from the integrating sphere. According to the calibration data in experiments  the radiation dynamic range and the best working point of the system are determined. The experiment result shows that the dynamic range of the image system is maximal when the exposure time is 8ms in ultraviolet  0.5ms in visible and 0.125ms in near infrared region. 2010 IEEE.
