Nickel based catalyst is of interest in the industrial catalytic processes  and it is always modified by doping a second element to improve its catalytic properties. Understanding the role of dopant is extremely helpful in tailoring the active centers. In this work  Zn could induce a significant improvement of the catalytic performance of NiAl for the hydrogenolysis of glycerol. The Zn doped ZnNiAl catalysts exhibited high activity and the improved selectivity to 1  2-propanediol  it was about 2 times higher than the original ones. The ZnNi alloy formed in ZnNiAl was responsible for the noticeable catalytic performance. They preferred to coordinate with the end hydroxyl group of glycerol  promoted the cleavage of C-O bond in glycerol  and resulted in the dominant formation of 1  2-propanediol. The findings described here will provide a useful knowledge for rational design of nickel-based catalysts  as well as reveal a new reaction model for the hydrogenolysis of glycerol. Carbon nanomaterials have attracted considerable attention and interest owing to the unique physical and chemical properties. Such as nanodiamonds  carbon nanofibers  carbon nanotubes (CNTs)  graphene and so on  they all have potential applications as field electron emission materials  electrode materials  storage hydrogen materials and composite materials. In this paper we reported the growth of layered graphene(LG) on carbon fibers surface. The LG synthesized on carbon fibers may have potential applications in many fields. For example  using to improve the electric conductivity and chemical stability of carbon fibers substrate  the grown LG can be applied as high performance capacitor  battery  field emission electron source  hydrogen storage owing to large ratio surface and hybrid multiscale composite. 2010 IEEE.

Based on reflective liquid crystal spatial light modulator (SLM)  a new foveated optical imaging system is proposed. High quality imaging can be realized at any region of interest (ROI) within the field-of-view (FOV) by utilizing the SLM to correct the aberration of different regions dynamically. A reflective cassegrain optical structure is proposed  which is designed  optimized and matched with the reflective SLM to construct a more practical foveated imaging system. This reflective imaging system has a large aperture so that enough light can reach the image plane. It also makes the total length of the system shorter and therefore more practical. We also simulate and analyze the system. This kind of foveated optical imaging system can be applied in wide FOV imaging aspects to reduce bandwidth and optics complexity  and to achieve weight reduction and miniaturization. 2010 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

High-speed digital cameras are progressing rapidly with the development of CMOS image sensor in these few years. In order to develop a high-speed CMOS industrial digital camera  the CMOS image sensor MI-MV13 is used. The sensor drive pulse and control timing based on Xilinx Virtex-II Pro FPGA is designed. A novel format of digital image transporting based on Camera Link data port is defined in this paper. It is implemented 1280 (H) 1024 (V) SXGA resolution digital image transported at a high frame rate of 300 fps (frames-per-second) with 5 Pixels 10 bit compatible Camera Link Medium Configuration. In addition  these functions that adjustments of exposure beginning time  integral time  AOI (Area of Interest) output and so on  are realized in a FPGA chip. All of the function modules are embedded in a SOPC (System on a Programmable Chip)  and further functions can be easily added to the chip at the second time development. Experimental results show that the design of driving control timing and data interface in FPGA is suitable for high-frame rate  low power  intelligent and miniaturization digital video camera.

The photomultiplier tube (PMT) that can work in different wavelength is an important detector device in remote sense technology. Microsphere plate using glass beads 50to 70m in diameter sintered together is the core component of the microsphere plate photomultiplier tube It is a novel two-dimension electron multiplier. The electrons gain for a single plate is about 1017 and do not have the phenomenon of ion-feedback. Furthermore the fabrication process is very easy. In this paper  much interest was put on the microsphere plate photomultiplier tube. Based on the analyses from the theory and the experiment result  we point out the key technology for fabricating PMT is how to obtain glass beads with narrow range in diameter and how to sinter the glass beads with a sufficient pylome. Factors affect the gradating technology and sintering process along with the solution to them is presented. In the last  the structure scheme and technological characteristic for fabricating microsphere plate photomultiplier tube were given. The pulse rising-time of MSP-PMT is below 400ps suitable to the detection of high-speed pulse. As easy to be fabricated and has great advantage over MCP multiplier in the ratio of performance to price  the microsphere plate photomultiplier tube is a promising dim-light detector.

High energy lasers processing of materials is knowing an increasing interest since it not only can make manufacturing faster  cleaner  and more accurate but also because it opens up entirely new technologies and manufacturing methods  that are simply not available by using standard techniques. In this paper  an experimental set-up  based on pulsed KrF excimer Laser  assembled for surface patterning of mono and two-dimensional  (1D-2D)  micro and submicro structures on LiNbO3(LN) crystal  will be described in detail. The apparatus has been used to produce photonic structures in LN  both by patterning of PMMA photoresist  and by direct surface patterning through laser ablation or direct laser writing. The structures and properties of the photonic crystals fabricated by using this apparatus have been investigated  and the preliminary results will be presented.
