With the increasing demands for the agility of the next earth imaging satellite  control moment gyro (CMG) is considered to be the most suitable actuator because of its torque amplification capability. However  a CMG system may introduce uncertainty of inertia dyadic to a satellite's attitude control system. The uncertainty is negligible for large space vehicles  but it has not been tested whether it can be ignored for small agile satellites. How to model the CMG system inertia dyadic varying with gimbal angles  and what influence it will put on the performance of attitude control system haven't been test accurately as well. All of them are dealt with mathematically and accurately in this paper. This paper firstly gives mathematic descriptions of the inertia dyadic of the 4-CMG pyramid configuration system  varying with gimbal angles  and then designs a variable structure control law for small agile satellite using CMGs. Finally  numerical simulation suggests that the inertia dyadic variation of a 4-CMG pyramid configuration system is approximately centesimal of the total inertia dyadic of the satellite  and that the designed variable structure control law is of good robust performance for an example of large-angle attitude maneuver  despite of the variation of the inertia dyadic. 2010 IEEE.

To obtain a number of advantages in fabrication  testing and alignment  many designs in which spherical mirrors replace classical Cassegrain-form aspheric mirrors are present in the literature. However  spherical mirrors suffer from substantial spherical aberration and thereby require some form of corrector group. But in this case  the question encountered is that of making the basic optical configuration more complex. In this paper  a new design based on Cooke corrector group is presented for eliminating spherical aberration  which is believed to provide higher performance with less complexity than previous approaches. Besides  the cost and fabrication period will be extremely decreased. The telescope system using corrector group here can achieve good optical performance with f# of 10  full field of 0.5  obscuration of 1/3 and MTF (Modulation Transfer Function) of 0.48 corresponding to 50@lp/mm. 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

In this paper  we are presenting a design method and its results for a space optical system with high resolution and wide field of view. This optical system can be used both in infrared and visible configurations. The designing of this system is based on an on-axis three-mirror anastigmatic (TMA) system. Here the on-axis concept allows wide field of view (FOV) enabling a diversity of designs available for the Multi-Object Spectrometer instruments optimized for low scattered and low emissive light. The available FOVs are upto 1 in both spectrum ranges  whereas the available aperture range is F/15 - F/10. The final optical system is a three-mirror telescope with two on-axis and one off-axis segment and its resolution is 0.3m or even lower. The distinguished feature of this design is that it maintains diffraction-limited image at wide wavelengths. The technological developments in the field of computer generated shaping of large-sized optical surface details with diffraction-limited imagery have opened new avenues towards the designing techniques. Such techniques permit us to expand these technological opportunities to fabricate the aspherical off-axis mirrors for a complex configuration.

The geometrical Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) of CMOS APS (active pixel sensor) is analyzed in this paper. Advanced APS have been designed and fabricated where different pixel shapes such as square  rectangle and L shape  were placed  because the amplifier circuit and other function circuits inter pixel of APS take up some pixel area. MTF is an important figure of merit in focal plane array imaging sensors. Research on analyzing the MTF for the proper pixel shape is currently in progress for a centroidal configuration of a target position. MTF will give us a more complete understanding of the tradeoffs opposed by the different pixel designs and by the signal processing conditions. Based on image sensor sampling and reconstructing model  the MTF expression of any active pixel shape has been deduced in this paper. According to actual pixel shape  three different active area pixels were analyzed  they were square  rectangle  and L shape  their Fill Factor (FF) is 30%  44% and 55%  respectively. Results of simulation experiments indicate that different pixel geometrical characteristics contribute significantly to the figures of their MTF. Different geometrical shape of active sensitive area of pixel and different station in pixel would influence MTF figures. The analysis results are important in designing better APS pixel and more important in analyzing imaging system performance of APS subpixel precision system.
