Design of a patch antenna with dual-band radar cross-section reduction

英文摘要In this article, we present a method for reducing radar cross-section (RCS) of a patch antenna in two frequency bands. This method is based on the absorbing metamaterial loaded around the patch exciting source. The metamaterial is composed of double-square-loop structure inserted with resistors, which can absorb incident wave at two frequency bands. The RCS characteristic of the proposed antenna is investigated by numerical simulation and measurement. Simulated result shows that RCS is obviously reduced by about 8 dBsm at 5.8 GHz within the operating frequency of the antenna and 9 GHz out of working band, compared with the conventional patch antenna. In addition, it is found that the loaded metamaterial almost have no negative influences on the antenna performance, and the gain of the antenna is improved by 0.6 dB.
