英文摘要There are various structures against debris flows, such as flood-regulating reservoirs, silt trap dam, and diversion ditch. As debris flow ravines have much smaller catchment area than ordinary small watershed, usually less than 50 km2, structures built for them are on a much smaller scale than common water conservancy works, and relatively simple-textured; they are not difficult for designing. But yet, debris flows, especially viscous ones, possess many properties different from ordinary sediment-laden flows. Therefore, all these properties must be taken into consideration in designing structures against debris flows. To ensure the normal functioning of them, these structures should be adapted to debris flow charcteristics. At the same time, though the catchment area of debris flow ravines is small, debris flows occur in more complicated conditions than ordinary floods. Accordingly, the integrated control programme of debris flow watershed is more intricate than that of a common small watershed. Only is this complexity paid attention to, the treatment can be successful. Therefore, this book will not give an introduction to the general design of structures against debris flows and individual control programmes; whereas, based on the experiences and lessons collected in the field tests of debris flow control in China during the last 30 years, emphasis will be placed on how to make engineering designs against debris flows according to their properties and how to work out different integrated control programmes in the light of the complicated occurrence of debris flows.
