VLBI observation of the BL Lac Object AO 0235+164 at 5 GHz

英文摘要A new high-resolution (similar to 2 mas) VLBI hybrid map at a wavelength of 6 cm of the BL Lac Object AO 0235+164 has been produced. The map shows its radio structure to be dominated by a strong, nearly unresolved core, with two weak components, one in the NE, and a much fainter one in the SW. The position angle of the jet component is 66.4 degrees, higher than in previous observations. From the time variation of the flux density, we find that there are probably two periodic variations, a shorter one of 1 similar to 2yr and a longer one of 3 similar to 5 yr. These two periodicities could be due to the joint action of jet outbursts and jet rotation.
