中文摘要 | Non-equilibrium aggregation behavior on a surface has attracted increasing attention among researchers. It was found that at the early stage of film formation particles could coagulate into the form of diffusion-limited aggregation (DLA) on a free substrate surface. By using scanning tunnelling microscopy, Hwang, Schroder, Gunther and Behm [Phys. Rev. Lett. 67 (1991) 3279] recently showed that on the clean Ru surface, Au atoms grew into irregular islands of a fractal character as well. Similar monolayer growth was also found on a constrained surface, i.e., the interface between two lattice planes. In this paper, we report on the cluster aggregation behavior between two metallic layers. Samples were prepared by alternatively depositing pure constituent materials onto freshly cleaved NaCl single crystals in a high vacuum. Transmission electron microscopy was used to characterize the surface construction. It was found that KBr dendritic islands on the constrained surface also had a fractal geometry. The growth dynamics could be modified by adding interface impurities. Our experiment showed that Al addition onto the constrained surface could accelerate the growth process and degraded the fractal dimension. Detailed results will be presented, and some possible mechanisms will also be discussed. |
