This paper deals fully with the regional characteristics of formation and the devopment of debris flows along the Sichuan-Xizang Highway and the relation between galciation and debris flow and analyses the movement course, mechanical porperties, variation of erosion and deposition of debris flow and the processes of dissipation of energy a drops of debris flow gully bed, the impact force and the velocity of debris flow. On this basis it is proposed that the following problems should be considered for the engineering measures at sections of highway crossing debris flow:
1. Selection of road line and the corresponding preventive measure of debris flows;
2. Design of the site of the bridge spanning the debris flow gully;
3. Structures across the debris flow gully and their connection with the upstream and the downstream gully bed.
