The economy and construction of mountain towns will be make a rapid progress along with the deepening of the exploitation in western China. The problems of debris flow disasters will be more important in the rapid drogress. It becomes an important task to resolve these problems and to mitigate debris flow disasters in the exploitation. The distribution and hazards of debris flows of mountain towns in western China are dissertated. The developing tendency of debris flows of mountain towns under the exploitation of western China is pre-estimated. The problems of old control works of debris flow and debris flow disasters in the towns rebuilding and extending and highway construction are discussed in detail. Being aimed at these problems of debris flow, a comprehensive countermeasure of debris flow disasters mitigation for mountain towns is made out. This countermeasure includes controlling debris flow disasters with civil works, improving the watershed environment with bioengineering for influence the initial of debris flow and the decision support system composed of debris flow forecast and alarming, the prediction of debris flow inundated area, pre-evaluation of condition of debris flow disaster and emergency programs for debris flow disasters based on the research on the debris flows around the towns.
