Preparation and properties of NiFe2O4 nanoparticles by a polyacrylamide gel route

英文摘要A polyacrylamide gel route was used to prepare NiFe2O4 nanoparticles. The prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). It is demonstrated that single-phase NiFe2O4 nanoparticles can be prepared separately using ethylenediamine-tetraacetic acid (EDTA) and acetic acid as the chelating agent at a calcining temperature of 600°C. The two as-prepared samples have regular spherical particle shapes and uniform particle sizes with an average diameter of 55 nm and 75 nm, respectively. The energy bandgap of the samples is estimated to be 1.85 eV by ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. Fe 2p3/2 and Ni 2p3/2 XPS spectra reveal that the samples have an inverse spinel-type structure with the chemical formula (Fe3+)[Ni2+Fe3+]O4. Magnetic hysteresis loop measurements indicate that the samples exhibit good soft magnetic properties, and their saturation magnetization, remanent magnetization and coercivity have a decrease with decrease in particle size.
