Effects of T6 treatment on microstructure and properties of thixoformed Mg2Sip/AM60B composite

英文摘要The effects of T6 treatment (430 , 6 h+215 , 2 h, air cooling) on microstructure and mechanical properties of thixoformed Mg2Sip/AM60B composite were investigated. The results indicate that the hard and brittle β (Mg17Al12) phase which distributed both along the grain boundary and within the grain is almost dissolved after T4 treatment (430 ×6 h, water cooling). The tensile properties of the composite remarkably improved due to the basic disappearance of β phase harmfulness, increased solid solution strengthening and composition homogenization. However, the hardness decreases significantly. After T6 treatment, the discontinuous precipitation of β phase dispersively distributes at grain boundary and interface of Mg2Si/α-Mg. According to the fine and dispersed distribution of β phase, the pinning effect at grain boundary increases remarkably and lead to the increasing of ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and hardness of the composite. The elongation slightly decreases. No obvious continuous precipitations of β phase can be found at the present T6 treatment. The optimum T6 heat treatment for thixoformed Mg2Sip/AM60B composite is (430 , 6 h+215 , 2 h) and the tensile properties are up to UTS of 290 MPa and elongation of 14.3%, increased by 40.10% and 83.06% respectively compared with those of the as-thixoformed composite. In general, the fracture regime changes from intergranular of as-thixoformed composite in turn to a mixture of intergranular and transgranular form of T4 treated and transgranular regime of T6 treated composite. ©, 2015, Editorial Office of Transactions of Materials and Heat Treatment.
