英文摘要	When the local directional pattern (LDP) operator is used to expression recognition, it ignores the problem that the different gray-scale image may be the same histogram which may result miscarriage of justice. At the same time, the selection of parameter K plays key role which determines the strength of texture change of the local area, but the K value is only given by experience in LDP. For this, the paper proposed a new algorithm which named local directional binary mode (LDBP) and used to expression features extraction. In the method, it uses the median filter to determine the value of the parameter K adaptively, and then combines the LLE which is one of the manifold methods to reduce the dimension of the whole expression features under the LDBP directly. The Experimental results in the JAFFE database have shown that the proposed LDBP method is superior to the original methods when is used to extract facial expression features, and it shows better robustness to different pixel expression images. © 2014 Binary Information Press.
