英文摘要The structure of edge (end) states in general open antiferromagnetic quantum spin chains is discussed in this paper within the frameworks of Non-linear-sigma-model (NL sigma M) for open antiferromagnetic quantum spin chains. We argue that edge states with fractionalized quantum number S-edge exist in all spin chains with S greater than or equal to 1, with S-edge=S/2 for integer spin chains, and S-edge=(S-1/2)/2 for half-integer spinchains. Numerical results of density-matrix renormalization group computation for open spin chains with S=1/2, 1, 3/2, 2 are presented which verify our edge-state picture.
