Sediment properties of hyperconcentrated flow and the potential for agricultural improvement of debris flow deposits-A case study on the Jiangjia Ravine, Yunnan Province, China

英文摘要Debris flow deposits with large particle sizes and no clear soil profile are unfit for crop growth. In order to agriculturally exploit debris flow deposits, the sediment properties of hyperconcentrated flows and their use for agriculturally improving debris flow deposits were studied. The results indicate that the sediment content of hyperconcentrated flow in the Jiangjia Ravine is 23-335 kg/m(3) during the rainy season. The soil particle distribution of sediment is 73-86% of <0.02 mm particle size and 54-80% of 0.02-0.002 mm micro-aggregates. The soil nutrient of the sediment is poor or very poor, but rich in total K. Application of irrigation to hyperconcentrated flow deposits improves the soil particle composition, the soil profile structure, and the soil micro-aggregates of debris flow deposits, but does not improve soil nutrients. Therefore, applications of organic and inorganic fertilizer and rational planting measures are required to improve soil fertility and to prevent the soil from becoming hardened and barren.
