英文摘要	PURPOSE:To reduce the threshold current and improve the initial characteristics of a semiconductor laser device at the time of laser oscillation and, at the same time, to extend the service life of the device by providing projecting sections at sections other than ridge sections near the ridge sections. CONSTITUTION:Stripe-like projecting sections 1a and 1b which are parallel with stripe sections 4c having ridge structures and have the same height as the stripe sections 4c have are provided in this semiconductor laser device. Accordingly, the one-sided collision of the waveguide stripes due to their ridge structures is eliminated and the load applied to the semiconductor laser device is not concentrated to the waveguide strip sections, but scattered to the projecting sections 1a and 1b also, when the semiconductor laser device is mounted on a supporting body by means of the supporting body fitting face of the laser device and laser device fitting face of the supporting body. Therefore, the occurrence of crystal strain produced when an active layer (light emitting area) 3 below the ridge structures is damaged by stress can be eliminated and such problems as an increase in threshold current and deterioration of initial characteristics at the time of laser oscillation, deterioration of the service life of the semiconductor laser device, etc., can be eliminated.
