英文摘要PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of optical coupling between a semiconductor laser element and an optical fiber by attaching a transparent resin onto the optical outgoing end surface of the semiconductor laser element and optically coupling the resin with the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:Optical beams 5 are emitted in the longitudinal direction of an active layer 2 from the end surface of an LD element Emitted optical beams 5 are transmitted through a transparent resin 6 attached onto the end surface of the element 1, and projected directly to an optical fiber 3 with a core 4. The resin 6 is affixed onto the end surface of the element 1 by dripping, and the surface of the resin shapes a spherical surface and functions as a kind of a convex lens. Accordingly, the angle of radiation theta' of optical beams 5' emitted from the resin 6 is made smaller than that theta of optical beams 5 immediately after emission from the end surface of the element 1, thus improving the efficiency of optical coupling between the element 1 and the optical fiber. 3.
