英文摘要	PURPOSE:To alleviate dispersion in monitoring current, which is yielded by the error of a mounting position, by increasing the height of a front part, on which a laser diode (LD) pellet is mounted, higher than a rear part, and making the length of the front part equal to or slightly shorter than the length of the pellet. CONSTITUTION:An LD pellet 1 is mounted on a heat sink 5b. A step part 17 is provided at the heat sink 5b. Backward emitted light 4b is reflected by the lower part formed by the step and projected backward. when the height of the step part 17 is H, the total height is equivalent to h+H, where (h) is the height of an active layer 2. Within the diameter of the received light in a monitoring photodiode (PD), there are always 4-5 peaks of interference fringes. Therefore, the dispersion in monitoring current value caused by the error of the mounting position of a monitoring PD 11 becomes small. The larger the step difference H, the smaller the interval between the interference fringes. In the actual operation, it is thought to be sufficient when several peaks to about 10 peaks appear in the diameter of the received light. Therefore the step difference H can be about 20-40 mum. Thus, the dispersion of the monitoring current caused by the error in the mounting position of the monitoring PD 11, which is mounted on the rear part of the LD 1, can be alleviated.
