英文摘要	PURPOSE:To reduce the power consumption of a laser diode and to extend the using life of battery power by controlling the optical output of a laser diode(LD) in a data area to a value less than a reproducing level at the time of a command waiting mode. CONSTITUTION:An ON/OFF control signal is formed and outputted from a timing generating circuit 3 together with a mode switching signal based upon a control signal and a detection signal to control an LD current driving circuit 4, and at the time of the command waiting mode, the optical output of the LD 18a in the data is controlled to a zero level. Since the optical output of the LD 18a in the data area is controlled to the zero level at the time of the command waiting mode whose time-occupation ratio is extremely high, the reduction of power consumption and the extension of battery using life can be attained.
