英文摘要PURPOSE: To reduce the size and cost of an optical device by coating part of the optical device with a Langmuir-Blogett film having a thickness which is 1/30 of the wavelength of transmission light. CONSTITUTION: A photodetector 23 is sealed with a Langmuir Blogett film 25 composed of four to ten monomolecular films having high structural durability. Since the films form a highly reliable protective coating and has thin thicknesses, the films can pass transmitted and received light waves without interference. In addition, no tightly sealed package which requires a high technology is required and the length of the optical path 28 between an optical fiber 26 and the photodetector 23 is shortened. Moreover, an optical device is operated at a film forming cost which is remarkably lower than that the sealed package and the size of the device is reduced.
