An exemplary embodiment embodied in a resonator fiber optic gyro is fabricated by a process of forming a crystalline substrate support structure (202) operable to support the first end portion (138) of the optical fiber (136) and the second end portion (140) of the optical fiber (136); forming a first end V-groove portion (208) and a second end V-groove portion (210) in the support structure (202); physically coupling the first end portion (138) of the optical fiber (136) to the first end V-groove portion (208); and physically coupling the second end portion (140) of the optical fiber (136) to the second end V-groove portion (210).
