英文摘要PURPOSE:To control output light intensity stably even during information recording by performing automatic light output control over a high output component current source and holding the state of data based upon the amplitude of output light pulses through-out recording until next recording. CONSTITUTION:A semiconductor laser 3 is driven by a low output component current source 1 and the high output component current source 2. Namely, the semiconductor laser 3 is driven with only the current I1 from the current source 1 when information is reproduced from a recording medium or with the composite current of currents I2 and I1 from both current sources when information is recorded. A sample held signal S2 rises in level during recording and an amplitude holding circuit 25 outputs data based upon output light pulses of the semiconductor laser 3. Then, the output of a sample holding circuit 26 is compared by a comparator 28 with the output of a reference voltage source 27 and its output is supplied to an LPF 29 and a power amplifier 30 to control the output current of the current source 2 with the output of the power amplifier, thereby holding the state until next recording.
