Susceptibility characteristics of lake sediments from Donghu Lake in Wuhan city and urban environmental significance

中文摘要Contaminated sources of sediments of Donghu Lake mainly have two kinds, natural and urban sources. The natural source consists of deposition process relation with secondary geochemical. reacted in lake sediments. The urban sources comprise of road traffic, industry products and human activity. Susceptibility (k) measurements of sediment samples of one hundred sixteen from the Donghu Lake, Wuhan city, Hubei Province, China indicate that k of north-south profile is higher than those of west-east profile. Average value of north-south profile is 11.97 x 10(-4) SI, west-east profile is 7.86 x 10(-4) SI, and Tangxun Lake with very low contaminated and far from Donghu lake is only 3.81 x 10(-4) SI. This result shows susceptibility of lake sediments in urban lake may be sensitive to pollution environment. The contamination sources of the southern of Donghu Lake (Guozheng Lake) are urban waste water, trffic dust, and its northern (Tanglin Lake) mainly are air dust from coal combustion from Wuhan Steel and Iron Company.
