Innovator network structure and cluster evolution: An exploration study of world patent data in nanotechnology

英文摘要This study investigated the relationship between the structure of innovator's network and the innovation performance of clusters. Using method like patent analysis and social network analysis, our methodology of constructing R&D cooperation network is based on the classical assumption that two innovators to be connected in a network if they have applied a patent together. Employing nanotechnology patent data drawn from Derwent Innovation Index, our analysis provides three main findings. The first more precisely highlights the properties of the effective network for knowledge transmission and knowledge diffusion. The second illustrates how the network structure of Japan's innovators in nanotechnology has boosted their innovation performance. The third unveils a distinction of network structure between the nanotechnology leading countries studied. Our work contributes to the classic literature on complex innovation network by providing a more granular understanding of how the development of innovator's network influences the cluster's performance. ? 2014 WIT Press.; EI; 0
