A signal modulation technique for increasing band efficiency in multipath environment

英文摘要In mobile communication, the frequency-selective and slow fading channel gives the multipath signals at the output. By virtue of the spread-spectrum nature, the CDMA demodulator can isolate these multipath components, which bears the channel information with random phase shifts and fading amplitudes. Therefore, independent channels can be distinguished by their channel variables. This provides a possibility to map additional information bits to transmitting channel selection. This work presents a methodology for increasing the band efficiency by selecting from two channels transmission. In comparison with the traditional QPSK modulation, the band efficiency is increased by factor of 1.5 and BER performance can be better. Theoretical analysis shows that BER of the proposed technique is lower than that of QPSK under assumption of availability of infinitive number of multi-path components, and the simulation results show, clearly, this advantage when the number of the multipath components is more than 4.; EI; 0
