英文摘要The systematic studies on the thermodynamic properties of nonelectrolytes in water by J.E. Desnoyers et al([1,2]) have thrown some light on hydrophobic hydration on the alkyl chain of alcohols, hydrophobic interaction between solute molecules, and structural aspect around molecules and suggested the existence of transition in aqueous solution of certain organic compounds qualitatively similar to micellization. Liu et al studied water-tetrabutanol mixture by partial molal volume measurement for some organic compounds([3,4]) and by e.m.f. measurement for electrolyte solution([5]) and supported the point of view on clathrate structure of 17:1 mole ratio for water to tetrabutannol in water rich solution. It serves for investigation of charater of hydrophobic interaction. Methanol is an organic solvent most similar to water. It serves as a cosolvent with water in study on enzyme activity. It is of interest to us in the structural aspect of binary mixture of methanol and one of the multicarbon alcohols, especially when the number of carbon larger than four. T.R. Stengle et al([6,7]) employed Xe NMR as a probe for hydrophobic environment in aqueoous solution of organic solvents and suggested that the magnitude of the initial rise in a plot of chemical shift of Xe with composition of solvent provides a rough measure of the degree of hydrophobicity of the cosolvent. It was employed as a probe for investigating of liquid structural behaviour of nonaqueous solution as well. Xenon has various stable isotope, therein Xe-129 and Xe-131 appear as NMR active nuclei. Owing to the nuclear spin I=1/2, Xe-129 gives sharp NMR absorption allowing accurate determination of chemical shift. Due to the adequate natural abundance of Xe-129 (26.8%) and cosiderable solubilities in various solvents([8]) the detection of Xe-129 NMR in a sample of liquid solution of natural abundance Xenon at ordinary pressure should be straightforward. From xenon's high polarizability the shielding of electrons is easy to be affected. Thus the chemical shift is very sensitive to environment of xenon atom([7]). However the shifts tend to be independent of xenon concentration, which indicates that they represent the infinitely-dilute solution limit. Xenon in nonpolar and chemically inert and, consequently, exerts minimal effect on its surrounding in medium. Thus its NMR appears unique advantage in giving useful information about the structural aspect of liquid mixture. This research recorded the chemical shift of Xe-129 in mixed solvents, namely methanol with n-butanol, methanol with n-pentanol, methanol with n-octanol, and methanol with n-decanol for mole fraction from 0 to 1, and measured density and refractive index of mixed solvents as well.; http://gateway.webofknowledge.com/gateway/Gateway.cgi?GWVersion=2&SrcApp=PARTNER_APP&SrcAuth=LinksAMR&KeyUT=WOS:000207589800012&DestLinkType=FullRecord&DestApp=ALL_WOS&UsrCustomerID=8e1609b174ce4e31116a60747a720701 ; Chemistry, Physical; SCI(E); 中文核心期刊要目总览(PKU); 中国科学引文数据库(CSCD); 0; 11; 1026-1030; 10
