Dynamic Crushing Behaviors of Open-Cell Foams Based on Sphere-Subtracted Models

英文摘要The dynamic crushing behaviors of the open-cell foams based on sphere-subtracted models were simulated by the LS-DYNA finite element software. Particularly, the influences of impacting velocity and relative density on deformation modes and plateau stress of the metallic foams were investigated. The simulation results indicate that the whole deformation modes of the metallic foams essentially reflect the different deformation modes of micro struts and have close relationship with the relative density and impact velocity. Under different impact velocities, the metallic foams present three different types of deformation modes, i.e., shock, transition and homogeneous deformation mode. With further deformation, a narrow localized instability band develops gradually in the mid-to-late shock and transition deformation mode. It weakens the bearing capacity of the metallic foams corresponding to apparent drop of the entire stress and plateau stress curves. The critical velocities, at which deformation modes switch from one mode to another, increase with relative density increasing. In addition, relative density, deformation mode and the inertia effect would affect the change of the plateau stress and thus the changing trend of the plateau stress is complex.
