Electrochemical detection of C-60(6-) and C-70(6-) in toluene at room temperature

英文摘要The complete set of six one-electron reductions of C-60 and C-70 was observed for the first time in a single organic solvent, toluene, at room temperatures (25 +/- 1) degrees C by cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry on a Pt disk ultramicroelectrode (UME). A type of room-temperature ionic liquid(RTIL), tetrahexylammonium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide(THA-Tf2N), was found to have an excellent solubility in toluene, and was employed as the supporting electrolyte to increase the conductivity of toluene. This electrochemical system presents a wide potential window down to - 3.7 V vs.. ferrocenium/ferrocene ( Fe+/Fe), which essentially allows electrochemical detection of C-60(6-) and C-70(6-) at room temperature. We also discussed the reasons why does this RTIL dissolve well in toluene, and the future applications of such system.
