中文摘要carbonaceous deposits often form at transition metal surfaces during hydrocarbon or syngas conversion reactions, and it has been long recognized that the formed carbon species either graphitic or carbidic affect the catalytic reactions significantly.[1] however, the detailed structure and formation mechanism of these kinds of carbon species remain unclear. in this contribution, we introduced ethylene as carbon sources to the ru(0001) surface, and gave a systematic study of kinds of carbon structures mainly using photoemission electron microscopy (peem) and scanning tunneling microscopy (stm).[2, 3] graphene islands with size ranged from nanometers to sub-millimeters, graphene overlayers from monolayer to trilayer and even subsurface and bulk carbon could be produced in a well controllable way using different preparation conditions. surface reactivity of the ru(0001) surface modified with the various carbon structures was also studied by high resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (hreels) using co as probe molecule, which showed strengthened co adsorption with subsurface carbon and surface passivation to co adsorption with surface graphene.
