中文摘要Recently, catalysis by gold nanoparticles has become one of the most studied topics in chemistry. The research on gold catalysis focuses on fundamental aspects of gold particles (e.g., size or shape effect, cluster-support interaction, etc.) on one hand, and exploring new reactions on the other hand. Among various reactions catalyzed by gold, selective oxidation of alcohols has attracted much attention because it affords a green process (atmospheric pressure, oxygen as the oxidant) for manufacture of aldehydes or ketones from alcohols. In the present work, small and uniform Au-Cu alloy nanoparticles were prepared on commercial silica support[2] and used as catalysts for the aerobic oxidation of a broad range of structurally different alcohols. As shown in Table 1, variation in the molar ratio of gold to copper led to different selectivities to benzaldehyde when benzyl alcohol was used as the substrate (entries 1-5). Especially, when Au/Cu = 1/1, both the conversion of benzyl alcohol and the selectivity to benzaldehyde are close to 100%, showing the synergetic effect between gold and copper. For the selective oxidation of other alcohols, the Au1Cu1/SiO2 also gave rise to a greatly enhanced selectivity compared to silica-supported pure gold catalyst. A variety of characterization techniques including XRD, HRTEM, UV-Vis, and FT-IR were employed to confirm the formation of Au-Cu alloy phase and to reveal the reaction mechanism of alcohol oxidation.
