中文摘要sponges are by far the richest sources of bioactive natural products among marine invertebrates (duckworth and battershill, 2003). the insufficient supply of wild sponge biomass, i.e., “the supply problem” critically limited the development of sponge-derived bioactive natural products (pomponi, 1999) and other applications (fu et al., 2006). intensive aquaculture of sponges through artificial seed rearing may provide an alternative sustainable supply of sponge biomass. to develop the technology of sponge seed rearing, the technology of seed production needs to be investigated. this study aimed to investigate the larval release and settlement of a model marine sponge hymeniacidon prelevis under controlled laboratory conditions. ripe h. perlevis explantswere collected on intertidal rocks in lingshui bay, dalian, china yellow sea during september and october 2006 and 2007. the effects of light intensity, temperature and attachment of sponge on larval release were investigated in laboratory. larval settlement was investigated under different light intensities and temperatures. the larval release of h. prelevis was an asynchronous event in laboratory conditions. attached sponge explants on substrata released five times more larvae than that of unattached sponge explants. the mean release rates were 7.2 larvae g−1 wet sponge day−1 and lasted for 12 days for attached sponges; 2.6 larvae g−1 wet sponge day−1 and lasted 7 days for unattached sponges, respectively. light illumination (6000 lx) stimulated the sponges to release more larvae than dark incubation. the highest number of sponge larvae (195.8 larvae g−1 wet sponge)was released at 18 ◦c, while only 48.0 and 51.7 larvae g−1 wet sponge released at 14 and 25 ◦c, respectively. the rate of larval settlement was faster under weak light condition than in high light condition. around 22 ◦c was the better temperature for larvae settlement than 14, 18 and 25 ◦c in this experiment. the results showed the feasibility of obtaining large quantity of larvae and early juveniles of h. prelevis through collecting ripe sponges during the larval-releasing season and subjected them into laboratory-controlled conditions.
