multimedia domain.Tosolvethekeyproblemofvisualpolysemiaandconceptpolymorphisminthe
image understanding,thispaperproposesasemanticdictionarytodescribetheimagesonthelevelof
semantic. Thesemanticdictionarycharacterizestheprobabilitydistributionbetweenvisualappearances
and semanticconcepts,andthelearningprocedureofsemanticdictionaryisformulatedintoamini-
mization optimizationproblem.Mixed-normregularizationisadoptedtosolvetheaboveoptimization
for learningtheconceptmembershipdistributionofvisualappearance.Furthermore,toimprovethe
generalizationabilityofthesemanticdescription,weproposethesemanticexpansiontechnology,where
a concepttransferringmatrixislearnttoquantizetheimplicitrelevancyamongtheconcepts.Finally,the
distributed frameworkonthebasisofthesemanticdictionaryisconstructedtospeedupthelargescale
image understanding.Thesemanticdictionaryisvalidatedinthetasksoflargescalesemanticimage
search andimageannotation.
