英文摘要4-6 grade primary school children with and without mathematics difficulties were administered into the Mathematical Processing Instrument Test to compare the differences between two groups using two types of visual-spatial representations to solve mathematical problems. Children with mathematics difficulties reported less use of schematic representations but more use of pictorial ones and demonstrated poorer performance on mathematical tasks than those without. Different from schematic representations, pictorial representations were found to be used decreasingly by children without mathematics difficulties with the growth of their ages, but no decreasing tendency was found among those with mathematics difficulties.
