英文摘要	在中国历史上,存在着受到王朝特别重视、据之即足以控制全国的特殊地区,它集中了全国最重要的武力、财赋与人才资源,并拥有统治全国的合法性,此即中国历代王朝统治所依赖的“核心区“(全国性核心区)。在“王朝统治的核心区“之下,又存在着大区的核心区以及高层、中层、低层政区的核心区等不同层级的核心区;王朝国家即通过控制不同层级的核心区,以实现对帝国疆域的控制。; The article,based on the analysis of the idea of "key economic areas" by Chao-ting Chi in his famous dissertation,"Key economic areas in Chinese History,as revealed in the development of public works for water-control" redefines the heartland or core in Chinese history.The heartland of the imperial state(or nationwide core)in ancient China may be defined as the vital areas that contain the majority of force,wealth,and elites and hold the legitimacy for rule as the rulers of different dynaties think they could control whole country if they control the heartland.In imperial China there are a lot of regional cores of different levels such as the core of large regions and the cores of lower administrative regions.The imperial court rules the whole country by controlling those heartland and regional cores.
