; Based on Palmer and other scholars’ studies on theory of imagery and the analysis of the formation and representation of cultural imagery,we find that both linguistic and non-linguistic factors can evoke cultural imagery: linguistic factors such as sound, morphology and syntax, and meanings together with non-linguistic factors such as pictures can evoke imagery. The construction of cultural imagery for headwords in bilingual dictionaries should depend on these devices and provide a proper cultural context for learners to experience taking into account learners’ cognitive level and needs. However, the acquisition of an equivalent cultural imagery to that of native speakers requires learners to be immerged in a larger authentic context.; 【作者单位】集美大学外国语学院;【作者英文名】LIU Li-xiang(Foreign Language School of Jimei University,Xiamen 361021,China)
