中文摘要	跨文化传播研究中关于面子文化的讨论,往往集中于东方社会和个人层面。从马噶尔尼使华这一中西方跨文化传播历史上的重要事件来看,对面子文化的关注可以从个人层面推演至国家层面,从东方扩展至西方,中英双方文化冲突中均存在面子维护、博弈和协商策略。东西方文化同样追求面子,但东方文化侧重于面子的积极层面,而西方文化侧重于面子的消极层面,双方既会因文化差异开展面子争夺战,也会因利益诉求而选择面子协商。; Discussions of face culture in the study of intercultural communication is mostly on the oriental society and the individual level. Focusing on the important event, Macartney's visit to China, this paper pointed out that concerns with face culture might enlarge from the individual level to the national level and from the orient to the west. Cultural conflicts between the Chinese and British people lied in the strategies of face protection, face game and face negotiation. Both parties cared much about face, but the oriental culture cared more about the positive side while the west cared more about the negative side. Both will fight for face because of cultural differences and negotiate on face for their own interests.
