This reality challenged the idea of ‘rejuvenation' of the Confucians of that time, and made them extremely anxious to the fate of dynasty. The thoughts of DU You and QUAN De-yu represented the two ways to overcome the current idea of ‘rejuvenation', and the latter became the mainstream thought at last. This kind of thought brought about a very new idea of ‘rejuvenation', it no longer focused on political affairs, but went a restoring ancient way to a ‘rejuvenation' of moral spirit, which gave rise to the intellectual thriving of the Mid-Tang dynasty. |
