中文摘要In order to reduce the electric field strength at the insulator ends, grading rings are installed at the ends of insulators. In this paper, a model coupling the indirect boundary-element method to the moment method is developed to calculate the electric-field distribution around the composite insulators at the heads of transmission towers. The heterogeneous media, such as the composite insulators and the filament metal structures such as the transmission towers and the transmission lines, are considered altogether. The effect of the grading ring on the electric fields a- long the insulator and on the surface of the grading ring is analyzed on the basis of the calculated results on the composite insulators of a 330 kV transmission tower. Analysis results show that increasing the diameter of the grading ring's tube or reducing the diameter of the grading ring can reduce the maximum electric field at the insulator's high voltage end and the maximum electric field on the surface of the grading ring. At the same time, the maximum electric field at the insulator's high voltage end will increase first and then decrease with increasing the shielding depth of the grading ring.
