中文摘要A millimeter wave radio-over-fiber (ROF) downlink transmission system was developed to increase the ROF system bandwidth, reduce the system cost, and expand the transmission length. This system generates high frequency millimeter waves based on optical carrier suppression (OCS) modulation using a Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM). The system is easier to implement than traditional methods. At the central station, the OCS scheme is used to generate and up-convert a 33 GHz optical millimeter wave. At the base station, the downstream signal is received by a high speed photodiode with the base data recovered by an electrical mixer. Experimental results show that the downlink 2.5 Gb/s data transfer over a 20 km single mode fiber was successful. Both the bandwidth and the transmission length are greatly improved over the traditional method.
