中文摘要The issues of climate change and CO/sub 2/ mitigation are great challenges to sustainable development, which are bringing new opportunities to the chemical engineering field. For industrial processes, the basic approach to CO/sub 2/ mitigation is to improve current energy systems. Various CO/sub 2/ mitigation methods were studied to meet the requirements of sustainable development for the chemical industry. Analyses show that for the chemical industry the main CO/sub 2/ mitigation methods include energy efficiency improvements, shifts to low-carbon fuels, nuclear and renewable energy sources, and carbon capture and sequestration. Chemical engineers should play an important role in implementing these options in cost-effective processes.
