With the injection of ECW (2.45GHz/20kW/10ms), a small plasma current (<1kA) is initialed by the combination of the induction of vertical field and the asymmetry of the helical field. Consequently, plasma current is rampped up by the ohmic field with a higher speed than those in normal discharges. In this start-up mode, the utilization of volt seconds mainly provided by ohmic field is improved; extra capability of adjusting plasma equilibrium is obtained without any modification to the hardware.
