His work crossed philosophy, theology, psychology and literature criticism.“Personality”was the core concept of his thoughts, contrasting to such collective concepts as “politics” and “society”, etc. He criticized strongly “reason” and Hegel's theory. He noted that modern society was a society towards “the crowd”, which resolved individuality and deprived the existence and responsibility and morality of one person. Kierkegaard presented a dialectical progression of existential stage: aesthetic, ethical and religious. Only in the religious stage, a person could perceive his existence by the sense of great pain and make a either/or choice. Choices were the essential task of one's existence. Choices occur in the instant, which is the point at which time and eternity intersect. Christian faith is not a matter of dogma. It is a matter of individual subjective passion. Faith is the most important task to be achieved by a human being, because only on the basis of faith does an individual can have a chance to become a true self.
