中文摘要In high-rise building fires, flame can spread to other floors through open windows or doors and along the exterior wall of the building. A numerical study in this paper reveals that the balconies have the effect of preventing the vertical spread of flame. It is found that such an effect greatly depends on the balcony's configuration and geometry. Based on detailed computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation and comparison of four types of balcony, an optimum configuration is suggested for fire performance-based consideration. It is also found that the selection of the computational domain can greatly affect the simulation results. With enlarged computational domain and improved mesh grid, we get results more reasonable than the previous work by other researchers.
