中文摘要The use of grounding to protect structures against lightning is shown to be inconsistent with fundamental physical principles. Many information technology (IT) systems in buildings with grounded structures have been damaged by lightning strikes, while ancient Chinese structures without grounding have remained undamaged through thunderstorms for over a thousand years. The Franklin lightning protection theory is actually harmful for buildings with IT systems, especially the idea of the lightning protection grounds. Only Maxwell's electromagnetic theory can be used to design lightning protection systems. The results show that the plasma lightning protection technique is more effective.
