中文摘要It is of high importance for main transformer protection of cascaded static var compensator (STATCOM). Here, the operation principle of cascaded STATCOM is analyzed, combining the theory of power system fault analysis a method to calculate the currents flowing through everywhere in the system is proposed for the situation that the short circuit faults occur at both sides of main transformer. Taking the +/-50 Mvar STATCOM of West Suburb substation in Shanghai for example, the fault currents under various fault conditions are calculated and the calculation results are compared with the simulation results of cascaded STATCOM system that is based on detailed model in EMTDC/PSCAD programs, the comparison result shows the proposed method is correct, so this model is available for reference to the design and setting of main transformer protection.
