n order to obtain the more accurate shear strength parameters and to increase the cost effectiveness of the project, a new linear fitting method, namely, Optimal Linear Fitting Method (OLFM) is proposed. This method improves the Least Squares Method (LSM) based on the reduction of errors and it is solved by referring tothe algorithm of Monte Carlo method. Furthermore, the method is applied in the Lijiahe hydro power station to calculate the shear strength parameters. Theresults show that compared to the LSM, the proposed OLFM provides more accurate fitting lines.
